E is doubled in 172 words, by far the most common, think LEVEL, ERASE-style patterns.
O follows at 81 words.
L at 71, A at 70, and T at 61 round out the most frequently doubled letters.
If you’re stuck and suspect a double, E is the single best letter to consider first.
