How to play Category Wordle: a full walkthrough

1. Pick a category. Choose from Movies, Music, Animals, Food, Tech, or Sports on the category selection screen.
2. Make your first guess. Type any real 5-letter word and submit it, this doesn’t need to relate to the category yet, it’s just your opening move.
3. Read the color feedback on each letter:
   • Green means that letter is correct and in the exact right position.
   • Yellow means that letter is in the answer, but in a different position.
   • Gray means that letter isn’t in the answer at all.
4. Use the feedback to refine your next guess. Keep green letters in place, try yellow letters in new positions, and avoid reusing gray letters.
5. Repeat for up to 6 total guesses until you land on the exact word or run out of tries.
6. Move to the next category. Head back to the category screen and pick a different theme; each one is a completely separate puzzle for the day.

Worked example

Say you’re playing the Animals category and the hidden word is TIGER. If your first guess is STONE: the S, N, and E come back gray (not in the word), the T comes back yellow (it’s in TIGER, but not in that position), and nothing comes back green yet. That tells you T belongs somewhere else in the word, and to avoid S, O, N, and E in future guesses. A stronger second guess like TRIBE would show T as green (correct spot this time), R and E as yellow, and I and B as gray, narrowing things down fast.
